An automatic brake system (ABS) is a safety feature in vehicles designed to prevent the wheels from locking up during braking, thereby avoiding skidding and helping to maintain steering control. The ABS system uses sensors to detect when a wheel is about to lock up and applies the brakes in a pulsing manner, thereby releasing and reapplying the brakes rapidly to maintain traction between the tire and the road surface. This allows the driver to continue steering the vehicle while reducing the speed and avoiding any potential accident. ABS is now a standard safety feature on most modern automobiles.
